A Botswana-based prophet today spoke of his shock at the US$200 maintenance fees claim by his former lover. Ephraim Kachaka of the Johanne Masowe weChishanu sect said this at Harare Civil Courts where he was brought by Annette Nyakudya.
“I am shocked with the money she wants from me and I have never been near such a lot of money. I am unemployed and I only do piece jobs in Botswana. I have four children I sired with a different woman and I can afford US$30,” Kachaka said.
“I do not have a professional qualification and I realised less than US$130 per month. The issue of me being a prophet is confusing me now because I only assist people who sometimes thank me with something.
“I practice here in Zimbabwe and in Botswana only and I do not get a lot of money from that,” he said.
Presiding magistrate Mr Milton Serima brought the court to a standstill when he asked Kachaka if he referred to prophesying when he said he survives on piece jobs.
Kachaka said he got part-time jobs in the construction industry and also used the residence permit he got in Botswana to smuggle cars into the country.
Earlier on, Nyakudya told the court that Kachaka would tell her that he realised more than US$400 daily when they used to reside in the same neighbourhood in Botswana.
“We are not staying together and he said he earns more than US$400 because he had lots of clients who depended on his services. He arrived yesterday in Zimbabwe and he bought a second car which is proof enough to show he realises a lot of money,” said Nyakudya.
“He must do something towards the upkeep of his child and I cannot do everything alone.”
Mr Serima ordered Kachaka to pay US$60 at the end of each month towards his child’s upkeep.
