Protection order bid flops

A Harare woman’s bid for a protection order against her husband flopped yesterday after she failed to convince the court that he subjected her to abuse.

Norah Mamoyo accused her husband, Garikai Magoche, in the Harare Civil Court of insulting and sometimes assaulting her.

However, magistrate Tamara Chibindi dismissed the application saying Mamoyo had failed to provide evidence to back up her claims.

“He insults me in public and he also assaults me.

‘‘He also harasses our neighbours every time I am at work. He is disturbing my peace and I am no longer interested in this marriage. I want out,” Mamoyo said.

“He does not help me in any way, especially financially. I pay rentals, pay school fees for our children and buy everything needed at home.”

Magoche denied all Mamoyo’s accusations.

“I am opposing the application because she is not telling the truth.

‘‘I do not insult her or assault her. I also do not have time for our neighbours.

“She is the one who insults me. I am a responsible father and husband, but the thing is I am self-employed and sometimes I do not earn much, but she does not appreciate my efforts,” he said.
