Proud Zimbo Wear.
“I am going to be the fact of Proud Zimbo Wear and I am grateful to them it is really an honour. I know clothing labels world over dress celebrities and I feel honoured,” he said.
Freeman who had a successful stint in South Africa during his maiden show in February this year said he was blessed.
“I have set myself high standards such that some fans compare my music to that of Winky D, which is quite surprising because he started music when I was in Form Two. I have since moved out of my parents’ house to start my own life thanks to music,” he said.
Freeman’s manager, Hillary “Punchline” Chinake, who will accompany the singer to South Africa was full of praise for the high-riding musician.
“Freeman is arguably the one of hottest artistes in Zimbabwean dancehall right now that’s why he is the chosen to be the main performer,” he said.
Proud Zimbo Wear is brainchild of a South African-based Zimbabwean designer, Joe Mavasa, whose clothing line seeks to celebrate Zimbabwe as a brand not only in the region but across the continent.
“The clothing label is associated with celebrating being Zimbabwean, that is the reason we choose Freeman, when he performs here (South Africa) because he will be representing Zimbabwe,” said Mavasa.
The Kuwadzana-born Mavasa works for a South African event management company that inspired him to come up with the Proud Zimbo Wear. He is involved in designing clothes with specific themes to showcase Zimbabwean culture and beauty.
“The label was started in 2010 ahead of the Fifa World Cup in South Africa and we launched the label in April of the same year.
“We have since decided to launch the label internationally, but we need to bring the label back home before we take it beyond Africa and the world at large,” he said.
Mavasa said Proud Zimbo Wear also sought to inspire and unite Zimbabweans in the Diaspora to be proud of their country and heritage.
