MANICALAND is now looking ahead for the national cricket age group trials in April this year after successfully hosting the much-awaited provincial age group trials that attracted multitudes of school-going budding cricket players at Hillcrest College, just outside Mutare last weekend. The age groups include Under-14s, 16s, 18s and 19s. Square Square, the Zimbabwe Cricket Manicaland Province chairman, as well as Zimbabwe Cricket Manicaland Province administrator, Terry Nyakurimwa conducted the trails.
Apart from identifying and developing talent in the gentlemen’s game, the initiative was meant to come up with a list of players who will undergo national trials in their respective age groups. In a statement, Zimbabwe Cricket Manicaland Province administrator, Terry Nyakurimwa, confirmed the development.
Nyakurimwa also confirmed that those selected in the various age groups will represent the province in the national trials to be held in April. “It is with great pleasure that we announce that Manicaland cricket province successfully conducted trails for Under 14s, 16s, 18s and 19s. The trials were at Hillcrest Preparatory.
“All participants are expected to arrive for registration at 8am. The main intention of the trials was to provide young uprising cricketers with an opportunity to showcase their cricket skills and be selected to represent the province in their various age groups.
“Those selected in the various age groups will now represent the province at the national trials to be held in April this year,” reads the statement. In the same statement, Nyakurimwa also said schools had their input. “Schools provided breakfast, lunch and refreshments for their students,” reads the Zimbabwe Cricket Manicaland Province statement.
