Province to decentralise anti-sanctions campaign

Sanctions Campaign with hundreds of people expected to sign the petition.
President Mugabe officially launched the National Anti-Sanctions Petition campaign in Harare last week.
In separate interviews yesterday, governors and Zanu-PF provincial chairpersons for Midlands, Matabeleland North, South and Bulawayo provinces, said they were fully geared to launch the campaign in their respective provinces.
Zanu-PF chairman for Matabeleland South Province, Cde Andrew Langa, said his province was ready to launch the campaign at the weekend.
“The party’s provincial co-ordinating committee will meet on Saturday to decide the proposals for centres,” said Cde Langa.
“We have gathered all the equipment for the launch, Matabeleland South is ready for the campaign.”
Matabeleland North Governor, Cde Sithokozile Mathuthu said they were working on identifying the venues where people can visit to sign the petition.
“We are working on identifying the venues and the dates for the signing of the anti-sanctions petition and all the logistics will in be place very soon,” said Governor Mathuthu.
“The province is fully geared for the signing of the petition and we want to assure all the people that the process will be easy for everyone. We are receiving a lot of inquiries from people who are eager to know the dates and the venues.”
Bulawayo Province Governor, Cde Cain Mathema, also threw his weight behind the campaign.
“We still stand by the resolution we made at the weekend and we will be giving the people more information on the campaign,” he said.
Zanu-PF Bulawayo chairman, Cde Isaac Dakamela, said they would identify two venues in every ward where the sanctions petition would be signed.
“Preparations for the signing of the anti-sanctions petitions are in progress and we are in the process of identifying two venues in each ward where people will come and sign,” he said.
In Midlands, Governor Jason Machaya said more than 600 000 people were expected to append their signatures to the petition. Cde Machaya said his office was busy identifying centres in all the province’s wards where people would sign the anti-sanctions petition.
“We are setting up centres through out the province as we seek to give every Zimbabwean hurt by this continued sanctions a platform to speak out. The process to identify centres has started and following wide consultations, we expect more than 600 000 people to sign the Anti-Sanctions Petition from the province,” he said.
Cde Machaya said committees had been set up at provincial, district and ward level that will assist identify the convenient centres where people can go to sign the petition.
“The committees are now identifying these centres which should be as near as possible to the people,” he said.
