The unveiling follows calls for funding and greater coordination between Government departments involved in implementing the historic blueprint.
The resuscitation of the committees would initiate the implementation of the policy launched by President Mugabe in May and would intensify Government’s commitment to ensuring food and nutritional security for all in line with the Millennium Development Goals.
Addressing a workshop marking the launch of the committees here, Manicaland Governor and Resident Minister Cde Christopher Mushowe underscored the importance of co-operation between Government departments and development partners to ensure successful implementation of the strategy.
“High levels of malnourishment are hampering development of human capital which is indispensable for national development,” said Cde Mushowe.
“This problem of malnutrition caused by food insecurity is too much of a mammoth task to be tackled by one sector,” he said.
The provincial committees would oversee research on localised food and nutrition programmes as well as advise Government and the soon to be constituted provincial councils on policy direction with regards to food and nutritional security.
They would also be expected to initiate strategic responses to food and nutritional disasters in their respective provinces.
Members of the committees would include representatives from ministries responsible for health, agriculture, labour and social services.

Statistics show that one in three children under the age of five in Zimbabwe are severely malnourished.
As a result the Food and Nutrition Security policy seeks to ensure adequate food security for all Zimbabweans particularly the vulnerable at all times.
The plan was launched earlier this year and Vice President Joice Mujuru was tasked with overseeing its successful implementation.
