FORMER Bindura South legislator Cde Canisio Dengu was buried at the Provincial Heroes Acre in Bindura yesterday.

He was accorded Provincial Hero status in honour of his unwavering commitment, sacrifice and distinguished service to the people of Zimbabwe.

Cde Dengu died at Bindura Hospital last Friday. He was 80.

Born in 1945 in Dengu Village, Bindura, his humble beginnings shaped a resilient character and a deep sense of justice that defined his lifelong dedication to the nation.

He attended Makumbi Primary School and, through hard work, earned a bursary to Musami Mission in Murehwa, where he studied up to Form Three and served as school captain.

It was during these formative years that his political consciousness was awakened.

Chief mourner, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Christopher Magomo, was represented at the burial by Provincial Director of Local Government Mr Aaron Mazingaiso.

In his remarks, Minister Magomo said a young Dengu and a group of like-minded youths took a bold stand against colonial injustice by cutting down tobacco plants on a nearby white-owned farm after being deeply disturbed by the ill-treatment of black farm workers.

He also served as a ZANU PF Central Committee for five years and, until his passing, was a member of the National Consultative Assembly.
