THE Public Service Commission (PSC) is implementing a system to reward dedicated civil servants as part of a broader Government effort to enhance the quality of public service delivery by motivating and recognising its workforce.
Speaking at the monthly awards ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, PSC head Strategic Planning and Programming Management Dr Henry Chikova said recognising excellence within the public service was not only a powerful motivator but also a testament to a forward-looking institution that values performance and professional growth.
He said the initiative sought to recognise and reward exemplary performance, potentially including bonuses and other incentives.
“By celebrating our top performers, we signal to every member of staff that merit and commitment are appreciated and rewarded. This fosters a virtuous cycle of performance, driving individuals to excel, reach higher, and serve with renewed purpose,” said Dr Chikova.
He highlighted that such initiatives unlocked immense value — not just for the individual, but for the institution, and ultimately for national development.
“Today’s award recipients may well be tomorrow’s directors, ambassadors at Sadc fora, or policy architects shaping our industrial future. Once this culture of recognition takes root, we will witness its ripple effects: improved productivity, stronger teamwork, and tangible progress toward the Ministry’s mandate of industrial and economic development,”.
He said the importance of recognising performance was underscored in the PSC policy framework, particularly under the Integrated Results-Based Management (IRBM) system.
“What we are doing today aligns perfectly with the spirit of that policy—fostering a results-oriented and accountable public services,” he said.
Those who scooped the workers of the months awards are Tapiwa Maswa: December 2024, Patrick Tuluzawu: January 2025, Cardwell Makomo: February 2025, Ruvimbo Sandauke: March 2025, Munyaradzi Bokosha: April 2025
He implored civil servants to remain focused on innovation, continuous improvement and capacity-building.
