A 24-YEAR-OLD Beitbridge man has been jailed for an effective four years for scalding a rival with water during a fistfight at a flea market in Tshitaudze suburb.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said Munodei Mutongo was convicted at the Beitbridge Magistrate Court for a crime he committed in April this year.
He is accused of having assaulted one Vusa Ncube (28) whom he later scalded with water on April 8.
“The offender assaulted Vusa Ncube (28) by pouring hot water all over his body following a fistfight on 8 April at Mashavhire Flea Market. The victim was sleeping under a tree when the offender perpetrated the assault and he sustained serious burns. He was referred to Beitbridge district hospital,” said the NPAZ.
“The NPAZ would like to encourage members of the public to resolve their issues amicably without the use of violence or engage in third party mediation”.
