The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has expressed profound sorrow following the deaths of its vice chairman, Retired Colonel Kenneth Mhlophe, who also served as Highlanders Football Club chairman, as well as Highlanders vice chairman Sifiso Siziba and treasurer Nkani Khoza.
The three football administrators died in a road traffic accident on Thursday night while returning from Highlanders’ Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against ZPC Kariba.
In a statement, the PSL Board of Governors and secretariat described the trio as committed football administrators whose service had left an indelible mark on the domestic game.
“The Premier Soccer League Board of Governors and secretariat are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of PSL Vice Chairman, Rtd. Colonel Kenneth Mhlophe, who was also the Chairman for Highlanders FC, Highlanders FC vice Chairman, Sifiso Siziba and Treasurer, Nkani Khoza.
“The League has lost dedicated football administrators whose leadership, commitment and service made a significant contribution to the development of the game. Their passion for football and dedication to the growth of both Highlanders FC and Zimbabwean football will be greatly missed,” the statement read.
The PSL paid special tribute to Retired Colonel Mhlophe, highlighting his service to the league.
“Rtd. Colonel Mhlophe served the League with distinction as Vice Chairman and showed an unwavering commitment to the advancement of the domestic game.”
The league extended its condolences to the bereaved families and the football fraternity.
“The Premier Soccer League extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of all the departed souls in this unfortunate accident and the entire football fraternity.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragic loss.
“May their souls rest in eternal peace.”
