PSL kick off date moved

FOOTBALL lovers will have to wait one more week to watch their favourite teams in action in the Caste Lager Premier Soccer League after the kick off date was moved to 17 March.

The PSL had initially announced 10 March as the date the first ball in 2018 would be kicked but following a meeting of the board of governors yesterday, they opted to move the date seven days later.

In a statement the PSL confirmed the readmission of Harare City following last Wednesday’s decision by How Mine to withdraw from the Premiership.

“The Premier Soccer League met in Harare today and confirmed the readmission of Harare City Football Club into the PSL. The rest of the 17 Clubs confirmed their participation in the 2018 PSL competitions. Please be further advised that the 2018 PSL season will now kick off on Saturday 17 March 2018. All the clubs are expected to complete player registration by Wednesday 07 March 2018,” read the statement.

The change in the initial player registration deadline from 23 February to 7 March could see some How Mine players being snapped up by other PSL clubs. The shock decision by the Bulawayo Mining Company to withdraw How Mine from the league left players in dejection as the announcement had been when most teams had come up with the initial player lists, most of which had were most likely to remain unchanged.

The PSL also said fixture for the forthcoming season shall be released by on Tuesday calming football fans who had been agitated by the fact they still did not know who their team will face in the first round of matches.

Supporters had called into question professionalism at the PSL as they felt fixtures should be released way before the start of the league as with international trends. -@rasmthembo
