WITH four matches before the season reaches its halfway mark, the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is yet to hand out any monthly awards for outstanding players this season.
The awards have been handed out since Delta Beverages returned to sponsor the country’s topflight football league through its Castle Lager brand in 2011.
The PSL says it has been working on the rules and regulations of the voting process and will announce the new criteria before the end of this week.
The awards are for the Player of the Month and Coach of the Month.
“We’re currently finalising the rules and regulations. The voting process will be announced before the end of the week,” said PSL communications and media liaison officer Kudzai Bare yesterday.
The awards each carry $500 in prize money.
Voting is done by a panel of sports journalists from various media houses in the country and should be done after every four matches, which is almost after every month.
Some players that have excelled in matches played so far this season include the Highlanders’ quartet of Bruce Kangwa, Felix Chindungwe, young Prince Dube and Rahman Kutsanzira; Tapuwa Kumbuyani and Kudzai Chideu of How Mine; FC Platinum’s Obrey Chirwa and Winston Mhango; Caps United’s Joel Ngodzo and Leornard Tsipa; Dynamos’ Elisha Muroiwa; Chicken Inn’s Tafadzwa Kutinyu and Lawrence Mhlanga; Bulawayo City’s Lewis Ncube; Tsholotsho’s William Sitima and ZPC Kariba’s Never Tigere.
The coaches’ battle should have to be between Bosso’s Dutch coach Erol Akbay, FC Platinum’s Norman Mapeza, Caps United’s Lloyd Chitembwe and veteran Sunday Chidzambwa of ZPC Kariba.
