PSL to hold strategic training workshop

The workshop, to be held in Harare starting today up to Friday, will be facilitated by veteran sports administrator David Mutambara.
PSL chief executive, Kenny Ndebele, yesterday said the league needed to replace their old strategic plan, which expired in 2010, with a more vibrant one clearly stating the vision, mission, values and goals to guide them until 2015.
“Basically, we want to move to a higher level in professionalising our football,” said Ndebele. We have invited all stakeholders for this workshop, and these include clubs, Zifa, media, the Sports Commission and the sponsors, to get their views on how best to improve our standards.”
According to the management committee’s facilitation proposal, the strategic plan is a response of the need to reposition the PSL into a more professional and financially-viable organisation.
Ndebele said the strategic plan would be in line with the Harare Declaration agreed of 2008.
“The task is to develop a strategic plan for the PSL for the period 2012–2015 that takes into account the current operating environment of the PSL in particular and Zimbabwe in general. The plan is motivated by the need to enhance the governance of the PSL and improve its image and performance of the PSL affiliated clubs.
“The plan will have a strong corporate governance pillars with a specific focus on how the PSL and affiliated clubs will take ownership and drive its implementation.
“It will also examine the strategic plan in the context of the PSL’s mandate, developing its vision, mission and its values.
“These pillars will be scrutinised to ensure the PSL’s relevance and sustainability during the planning period.”
A planning report will be developed at the end of the process which will include the development of a strategic work plan with specific indicators and times lines to guide the implementation of the plan.
The league bosses have also lined up their annual meeting this Saturday to chart the way forward for the forthcoming season.
