POLICE have urged the public to put adequate security measures at their homes and business premises to curb cases of housebreaking and theft following recent cases recorded in and around Harare.
Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said police were investigating three cases of unlawful entry which occurred in Dema, Mashonaland East, in which unknown thieves stole property.
She said one of the victims went to bed at around 10pm after locking up her shop.
The following day she discovered that thieves had forcibly removed an asbestos roof sheet, gained entry through the ceiling and stole cash and goods valued at $188.
“The unknown suspects proceeded to two nearby bottle stores where they used the same method to gain entry into the shops where they stole groceries and cash worth $508.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to urge members of the public not to leave their premises unattended and to secure them at all times. They should also employ the services of reputable security guards and consider engaging other security systems such as alarms and CCTVs where possible. People are reminded to bank their money on a daily basis for safekeeping regardless of the amount,” she said.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba said they were appealing for information which could lead to the arrest of the criminals.
