Cape Town — West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has been ordered to pay £3.7 million to Crystal Palace amid accusations that he acted fraudulently when resigning from the club.
A Premier League Manager’s Arbitration Tribunal ruled earlier this year that Pulis had to pay £3.7 million in damages for the manner in which he left the club at the start of the 2014/15 season.
According to the BBC, Palace officials say that Pulis left the club once receiving a £2 million bonus for saving the club from relegation after he had committed his future to the Eagles.
Pulis denied deceiving Palace owner, Steve Parish into paying out the £2m bonus and challenged the order in the High Court but a judge ruled against him.
Sir Michael Burton ruled that Pulis’ actions were ‘disgraceful’ during and after the litigation in leaving the club and ordered him to pay back the full bonus as well as the legal costs involved.
The High Court heard that Pulis told owner, Parish that he needed the bonus to be paid earlier after giving the impression that he was in financial difficulty as he needed the money to buy a plot of land for his newly-wed daughter.
Parish totally believed this as he himself had just attended the same wedding. The next day after receiving the money though, Pulis told a stunned Parish that he intended to leave the club.
Palace believed that the 58-year-old manage had agreed to take charge of a more lucrative role at West Bromwich Albion. — Sport24.
