ARTISTES in Pumula, Bulawayo, are headed for a fulfilling summer as the Pumula Royal Arts And Community Awards (PRACA) has called for submissions and nominations for their talent to be recognised.
Pumula North Hall will forever stand as a historical site for Pumula artistes as it was where the event was born last year.
Happy Mpofu and Evidence Zana are the brains behind the initiative which seeks to “appreciate and embrace different talents that young people have.”
It will be the event’s second edition and submissions open on September 15 and close on October 22.
Nominees will be announced on October 31 with winners being announced on December 18 at a venue to be announced.
Only content created between the August 31, 2020 to September 10, 2021 will be considered and there will be a voting process where judges will count the votes and announce the winners.
The event has served as a springboard to artistes such as Kotiion, Poly de Nqoe, Teekay and Mtsheliwentombi to kickstart their careers as inaugural winners.
PRACA public relations manager, Shantel Chilumbu said they are excited to host the awards again and called upon artistes, sportsmen and community leaders to submit their works for consideration.

“This year’s awards will be held under the theme, ‘Promoting youth participation and recognising the young talent’ and we are calling on all Pumula artistes to answer the call and submit their works for consideration,” she said.
The vision is to grow the initiative to be a metropolitan event, not just for residents of Pumula Old, North, East and South. In its embryonic life, PRACA is no stranger to challenges and Shantel calls upon well-wishers to chip in with donations.
“We want to make this event a massive one and we could use a bit of help from well-wishers,” said Shantel.
