Pupil fatally stabs colleague over girlfriend

POLICE have arrested a 17-year-old Beitbridge boy after he allegedly fatally stabbed a fellow pupil in a fight over a girlfriend.
The juvenile, a pupil at Tshidixwa Secondary School, was arrested on Saturday afternoon and appeared before Beitbridge resident magistrate Gloria Takundwa yesterday charged with   murder.

The boy, who resides in Makhakavhule area under Chief Stauze, was not asked to plead to a murder charge and was remanded in custody.

Prosecuting, Nomathemba Sayi, told how on June 6 this year, the accused and Robert Mdau, were at the school grounds at Chamnanga area watching a football     match.

An argument over a girl ensued   between the two and degenerated into a fist fight.

“At the height of the fight the accused pulled out an okapi knife from his pocket and stabbed Mdau on the forehead and ran away,” said Sayi.

“Mdau was then rushed to Beitbridge district hospital where he died upon admission.”

The matter was reported to the police resulting in the teenager’s arrest on the following day. The okapi knife was recovered from the accused.
