Zimbabwe Afro fusion songstress Sandra Mashiringo aka Queen Mashie is set to make her debut on stage at the Afro Sonido festival in Manchester, United Kingdom this Saturday. Mashiringo is the sister of the late musician Andy Brown. Queen Mashie who will be sharing stage with Kajamor family from Senegal said she is honoured to perform at the festival and promised nothing but the best of her.
“I feel greatly honoured to be invited to perform at the Afro Sonido festival; they call different African musicians every first Saturday of the month. So I will be performing on the 9th and it’’s a very good opportunity for me since this is the first time I am performing in the UK,”
“I am expecting some promoters to be there so I will definitely give my best performance ever,” she said.
The former backing vocalist in The Storm commands a huge following in Kenya where she is currently based yet she is hardly known here in her homeland.
Although she admits that this has had a negative effect on her blossoming career locally, she is ready to relocate to Zimbabwe and focus on building a lasting career.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, she still embraces the experience she got during her stint with The Storm, a band founded by her late brother Andy.
“I got my experience from The Storm and I will always treasure that. Andy groomed me to be the artist I am now. Without him, I don’t think anyone would have realized the talent in me,” she said.
Afro Sonido celebrates Latin and African arts, culture and music by providing a platform for artists and groups to perform and show case their talent.
It was inspired by capoera and the amazing musical legacy of African people.
