Queen of the catwalk Malaika expected today

Harare today aboard Air Zimbabwe.

The 19-year-old lanky model is scheduled to touch down at the Harare International Airport in the early hours of today tentatively around 06.00 hours.
But the beauty insisted that her reception “won’t be as big as she would have wanted” since she emerged ninth in a hotly contested pageant from the 113 participating countries.
“I would have wanted a big welcome party at the airport, but I don’t think that’s possible now because I feel I could have done more,” she said.

It appears Malaika had set the bar high for herself and was now struggling to come to terms with her performance.
The life-changing contest could have seen Malaika strutting her stuff on the catwalks in Milan, London, Paris or New York had she made it through to the top three.

Miss Venezuela, Ivian Lunasol Sarcos, was crowned Miss World while Philippines’ Gwendolene Gaelle was the first runner-up with Miss Puerto Rico Amanda Victoria as the second runner-up.
But to most Zimbabweans especially those who know the history of pageantry vis-a-vis Miss World would admit that Malaika did well not just for herself but for the nation at large.

She qualified for the top 10 of Beauty with a Purpose and was in the final 20 in both Beach Beauty and Top Model.
She became the second Zimbabwean to make it into the top 10 at Miss World after Angeline Hundah (nee Musasiwa), who was number four at Miss World 1994.

Another Zimbabwean beauty, Vanessa Sibanda, currently pursuing a career in modelling in South Africa, made it in the top 12 at the Miss World in 2009 and also won other coveted international titles.
Asked about her future plans, Malaika said she was looking forward to going back to college and finish her studies.
