Quelaton team manager Mike Dube confirmed this yesterday. He said they hoped Rusike’s appointment was going to be a positive development for the team.
“Yes I can confirm that Simba Rusike is now our second assistant coach and we are hoping that as a former striker he will help the team to start scoring as we have the lowest goals in the league, we are happy to have him in the family and we can only hope he helps us out too,” Dube said.
Rusike is assistant to Philani Ncube who is the head coach and Farai Sibanda who is the first assistant coach and who was the interim coach before the appointment of Ncube.
Speaking yesterday, Rusike, who captained Highlanders in 1996 said he hoped his appointment would prove priceless as the team looks to move out of the drop zone.
He said he was looking forward to going head to head with former teammate Kelvin Kaindu with whom he played with at Highlanders and he said he hoped Quelaton would cause the first upset for the high flying Bulawayo giants.
“I have been with the team since the Dynamos game but this will be my first full week and I am looking forward to the Highlanders match at Barbourfields as they are coached by Kaindu whom I captained while striking with Bosso in the late 1990s, I hope we will be able to spring a shocker as the players had a better game against Black Mambas as compared to the Dynamos match.”
“I hope we can get them to score more as that has been their major failing thus far and by scoring against Mambas I think we can take heart and built from there,” Rusike said.
The team’s best results so far have been two wins and a draw but they anchor the log standings on four points after three points were deducted for fielding an ineligible player in their match against Motor Action in May.
Meanwhile, Division One team Emakhandeni Pirates have axed coach Raerburn Ndebele citing under-performance and unethical conduct as the main reasons.
“We had given Ndebele the mandate to build a team and this he did at the start of the season after our fracas with Bulawayo Chiefs.
“He has been failing to produce results as we have only won two matches this season and when he realised that the axe was hovering over his head at the beginning of this month he started selling our players and in our last match that we lost 4-1 away to ZPC Hwange, we actually fielded our juniors as we did not have our regular players.”
“We officially parted ways on Friday before our weekend match and we had Lindela Ndlovu the Under-14s coach in charge of that game,” Faith Dube the Emakhandeni Pirates chairman said yesterday.
He said there are searching for a coach but he expressed hope that they would get one soon.
The team has so far picked up a paltry seven points and are above bottom placed Projects FC.
Ndebele however said he had never been associated with the team.
“I was never their coach, look in the papers and you will see who the coach was,” said the highly qualified volleyball coach.
