adminCape Town — Dramatic video footage of the fatal shooting of a Kaizer Chiefs fan at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium has raised serious questions regarding the security provided for the Amakhosi’s final Absa Premiership match of the season against Chippa United in the Friendly City last Saturday. The footage was captured by an 18-year-old supporter at the match who said he “just wants justice to be done”, according to The Herald.
The video shows the Kaizer Chiefs fan running onto the field after the final whistle to join in the celebrations, wearing the famed Black and Gold colours of the Amakhosi.
Seconds later, a shot is heard and, as the cameraman momentarily shakes, the fan is seen lying motionless on the ground.
Over the course of the next few minutes, several supporters, policemen and security guards are seen staring at the man, before medical assistance finally arrives.
The video appears to contradict what police spokesperson Captain Johan Rheeder said immediately after the match, that there was an altercation between a fan and a policeman during the pitch invasion.
The man, named as 29-year-old Capetonian Ntandazo Mbenje, died on the way to the ambulance. — Sport24
