THE widow of the late Rahman Gumbo, a football legend who played and coached Highlanders and the Warriors, Virginia Sibanda will be buried on Thursday in Bulawayo.

Sibanda passed away on Sunday at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) after a long battle with cancer.

Her death comes barely two years after Gumbo died in Botswana in November 2023.

Mourners are gathered at number 2B Wells Road Sunnyside in Bulawayo.

Family spokesperson Mr Anele Sibanda said some overseas-based family members are still making their way to Bulawayo for the funeral.
“We have set Thursday as the day our beloved sister will be laid to rest. A decision is still to be made which cemetery she will be laid to rest but the burial will be in Bulawayo,” said Mr Sibanda.

A few weeks before her death, the Sibanda family had made a plea for donations and assistance to pay mounting hospital bills following surgery that cost US$15 000.

Her late husband was buried at Lady Stanley – a place set aside as a burial cemetery for outstanding citizens of Bulawayo.
