Rains expected next month

“It is difficult to forecast the onset of rains, but from climatic records we should expect the first rains around mid-November,” he said.

Mr Chifuna said the country could receive some light showers prior to the onset of the rains.
“We advise the public to be in touch with the Central Forecast Office for updates and agricultural experts for advice,” he said.

The country has been experiencing high temperatures of above 30 Degrees Celsius, a situation the Met Department said was normal during this time of the year.
“In some instances, temperatures have gone above 35 Degrees Celsius, notably on October 4. Chisumbanje, Chiredzi and Beitbridge recorded 39 Degrees Celsius,

while Victoria Falls and Kariba recorded 37 Degrees Celsius on the same day,” said Mr Chifuna.

“Although these temperatures were high, there was nothing out of the ordinary. No records were broken. The record for October is held by Beitbridge which had 44 degrees Celsius on October 12, 2010.”

Mr Chifuna said the high temperatures did not mean that the country was going through a heat wave as this was common during the hot season.
