Rape and assault lands man in prison

A 35-year-old Masvingo man was sentenced to 18 years in jail for rape and a fine of US$2 100 or one month in jail in default of payment
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said: “On the 29th of May 2024 at Tauya Village in Masvingo at around 0800 hours the accused person went to the complainant’s homestead. He asked the complainant about her mother’s whereabouts. When she said she did not know, he got angry and assaulted the complainant blaming her mother for his divorce.
“He pulled out a knife and threatened the complainant before raping her. The complainant screamed for help and her brother came to rescue her. They went to the brother’s house and the accused person followed them threatening to assault them. The complainant reported the matter to the police leading to the accused person’s arrest.”
