SUSPECTED rapist, Beston Nadola (36) who had caused havoc in the sprawling suburb of Dangamvura by raping unsuspecting women, was this week arrested after he was positively identified by a victim he allegedly sexually abused last week.

Nadola was last Sunday night apprehended by police at a nightclub in Dangamvura.

Manicaland provincial police spokesman, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said Nadola was positively identified by the rape victim (name withheld) during an identification parade at Mutare Central Police Station.

He appeared before Mutare senior magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiwundura on Wednesday facing rape charges.

He was remanded in custody and will be back in the dock on December 24.

Nadola is believed to be behind the reign of terror that gripped the high-density suburb in recent months where several rape and housebreaking cases were reported.

“We can confirm that one, Beston Nadola was this week arrested and was positively identified by a rape victim during an identification parade at Mutare Central Police Station on Monday,” said Inspector Kakohwa.

Last week, police said a daring masked and knife-wielding man recently sexually abused a woman at her house in Area 16 before vanishing. Police in Dangamvura subsequently launched an awareness blitzkrieg by writing letters to churches sprouted in the high-density suburb warning residents to be on the look-out for the rapists.

Police distributed the letters to all churches in Dangamvura urging them to be cautious and vigilant against these criminals who they described as cunning, patient and daring.

The criminals usually operate at night, open ing doors to several houses before raping unsuspecting victims.
