B-Metro Reporter

A CHIPINGE woman’s dream of a new job turned into a nightmare of sexual assault, after she fell victim to a bogus businessman posing as a shop owner on social media.

The 21-year-old was lured to Chingono Village, Rusape on 25 March after responding to what seemed like a legit job advert for a shop attendant. But instead of employment, she was met with violation and trauma.

The suspect, who posed as an employer, allegedly raped the unsuspecting woman after gaining her trust through online communication.

In the wake of this chilling case, police in Zimbabwe have issued a stern warning to the public: Do NOT blindly trust online job or dating offers!

“Members of the public are urged to conduct thorough research and verify the legitimacy of job offers and individuals behind them before responding to such adverts,” said national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi on X.

With online predators hiding behind fake profiles and promises, He said it’s crucial to check company reputations and offer authenticity before meeting strangers — especially in isolated places.

As investigations continue, the hunt is on for the predator behind the scam, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Stay woke. Stay safe. Don’t let your hustle become a horror!
