Rapist targets lone teenager at home

A 21-YEAR-OLD man from Chiungwani village in Mberengwa, Midlands Province, was handed a 15-year prison sentence for raping a defenceless 17-year-old girl who was alone at home.
On 20 August 2024, a tragic event unfolded when a 17-year-old girl was home alone in her kitchen and a stranger arrived at her doorstep, asking for water, which she provided.

However, the situation took a dark turn when the man held her hand, and ordered her to remove her clothes.

He raped her once before fleeing the scene.

The victim told her mother, who reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person.

In an official statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said, “A 21-year-old man from Chiungwani village in Mberengwa appeared before the Mberengwa Magistrates’ Court facing charges of rape.
“The State proved that on the 20th of August 2024 at around 1200 hours, the complainant (17) was home alone in the kitchen when the accused person arrived. He asked for some water to drink and she gave him. The accused person held the complainant’s hand and ordered her to remove her clothes and she complied. The accused person undressed himself before raping the complainant once and fled from the scene. The complainant disclosed the offence to her mother who then reported the matter to the police. The accused person was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.”
