RISING dancehall chanter Caleb Tareka, popularly known in the Zim-dancehall industry as Ras Caleb, will tomorrow (Saturday) unleash songs from his forthcoming album, Rascals Manuscript in a potentially explosive show to be held at Club Mandisa.
The Masvingo-born artiste rose to stardom after penning soulful tracks such as Tokwe Mukosi, Toropito, Nehanda and Mwana wenyu.
Speaking from his Harare base, the talented singer said he would for the first time sample all the new songs to his growing fanbase in Mutare.
He believes the forthcoming 10-track album will scale him to dizzy heights that will enable him to compete without fear with other heavyweights in the industry, the likes of Killer T, Soul Jah Love and Seh Calaz.
Some of the songs on the forthcoming project are Rasta in the jungle, Hovhiyo and Ndouya.
“The album carries some conscious music. It is filled with deep and inspiring messages. It is not limited to reggae dancehall, but has several other genres incorporated. I am set to release the album next month. I will be glad to present my new compositions in Mutare where my fanbase is growing by each day,” he said.
He last performed in the eastern border city last December at Tops Nite Club where a sizeable crowd was left crying for more.
The dreadlocked chanter started his musical career as a junior soldier in the Salvation Army. He never abandoned music when he left Zimbabwe for South Africa to pursue a Diploma in Journalism and Media Studies.
He returned home in 2010 and settled for Harare a year later.
His emotional chartbuster, Tokwe Mukosi was voted as the best conscious song in 2014’s Zim-Dancehall awards.
The show promoter, Boniface Nyamanhindi, confirmed the gig and said Ras Caleb would be supported by two dance groups, Hangasa Queens and Barbie Girls.
The waist wriggling Hangasa Queens will perform at the venue from tonight (Friday) to Sunday, while Barbie Girls will perform tomorrow (Saturday).
