JAZZ singer and songwriter, Ruvimbo “Raven Duchess” Mapanda, wants her music to touch the hearts of all the women.
Raven rallied women to exercise their rights, stand up and to use every opportunity to stake their claims.
She made the call ahead of the release of her second album next month.
Tilted Folklore, the album carries eight tracks with a fusion of jazz and folklore.
“We play our role as artists to bring gender equality through our work because I believe it has a great impact.
“An artist like Bob Marley changed the thinking of many by just using words.
“He didn’t need guns or bombs but only his music.” She added: “The challenges I have faced, as a female musician, are local promoters not giving the females an equal opportunity to showcase their talent.
“There are a few local promoters who have been supporting the authentic Zimbabwean sound.”
She is a fighter who has cleared many obstacles in her path.
“I have overcome these obstacles by performing locally and internationally, representing Zimbabwe with top tier performances and producing international standard quality music videos.
“I have shared the stage with other musicians and encouraged those who are starting their musical journey to be consistent and disciplined. I was inspired to tell my African story through music and decided to launch my first album in December 2021, titled Ethno Vibes.
“I went on tour in Victoria Falls and South Africa.
“This is my second album and I’m ecstatic about the collaborations and the Jazz and folklore fusion.
“I will be going on tour after the launch sharing this new music worldwide,” she said.
She has collaborated with different musicians from South Africa, Argentina, Cuba, United Kingdom and Zimbabwe.
Throughout her music career, Raven has done collaborations with musicians from Kenya, Poland, United Kingdom, Germany, South Africa, Cuba and Zimbabwe.
