ZIMBABWE red ball cricket captain, Sikandar Raza, collected a brand-new Ford Ranger, a gift he received from President Mnangagwa, at State House.
Raza helped the Chevrons to secure qualification for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, which gets underway next week in India and Sri Lanka.
“I want to thank His Excellency for sharing his valuable time and honouring me with the gift” wrote Raza on his Facebook account, after collecting his car
“The Highest office recognising (me for) being the World Number 1 is a testament of the support to me and to cricket
“This kind gesture will encourage all athletes to excel in their respective sports and in sha Allah we will have more number 1s in different sports and will raise the Zimbabwe flag high.”
Raza has been the country’s inspirational flag bearer in cricket due to his exploits on the field.
The 34-year-old is currently ranked first and second on the T20 and One Day Internationals (ODI) all-rounders list.
A lot of Zimbabwe’s hopes at the Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka hinge on his performance.
The Zimbabwe skipper is fresh from making waves at the SA20 competition where he impressed in the colours of Paarl Royals.
Raza is one of a number of the country’s top sportsmen and women who have been gifted by President Mnangagwa for their outstanding performances.
Herentals Queens captain, Tabeth Mutinhiri, who overcame a devastating career-threatening injury to bounce back and lead her team to a fourth consecutive league title, was also rewarded.
Footballers Emmanuel Jalai and Walter Musona were also rewarded.
The President has also honoured the Sables, who wrote their own piece of history when they qualified for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
The Gems have also been honoured.
