Re-elected National Assembly member for Silobela constituency, Cde Mthokozisi Manoki-Mpofu, has pledged to continue working hard to complete developmental projects that he started during the previous tenure.
Cde Manoki-Mpofu earned the right to represent Silobela for a second term after outclassing his closest rival Fanuel Sibindi of MDC-Alliance and six other aspirants.
In an interview yesterday, Cde Manoki-Mpofu thanked the people of Silobela for having confidence in him.
“I want to thank the people of Silobela for giving me another chance to complete projects that I started during the previous term,” said Cde Manoki-Mpofu.
Silobela, he said, should benefit from its natural resources like gold.
“I want to engage Government on the revival of Peace Mine and other such projects,” he said. “We want to establish better mining projects that benefit people of Silobela. Those projects should benefit the people of Silobela first.
“So, plans are underway for us to have organised mining with the assistance of Government.”
Cde Manoki-Mpofu said he was working towards the provision of clean taped water to every Silobela citizen.
“Silobela has serious water challenges, but it will soon be a thing of the past as we are working towards connection of tapped water to Cross Roads residents,” he said.
“We will also drill boreholes for our people so that everyone has access to clean water.”
Cde Manoki-Mpofu said Silobela should be turned into a green belt.
“During my previous tenure we managed to revitalise about three irrigation schemes with the assistance of the Government,” he said. “We will continue with the project. We already have the Vungu-Shangani Irrigation project that we have already started working on. It should be able to turn that region into a green belt.”
Cde Manoki-Mpofu said he was ready to work with everyone regardless of political affiliation.
“Out of twelve councillors, zanu-pf won 10 and the other two went to MDC-Alliance,” he said. “But when it comes to developmental issues, I do not look at political affiliation.
“I call upon every councillor to work with me for the transformation of our area. We are very rich in gold, but we have the worst roads, so we should work towards improving that.”
Cde Manoki-Mpofu promised to enhance education in the area, where he said schools should be refurbished and must also have access to electricity and information communication technology.
