Re-gaining the Lost

Transformation with Mildred

A personal development teacher walked into a room full of adults and boldly asked, “Who here can sing? Who would like to sing? Only a few weak hands were half-raised. People were most probably thinking, I can never strike a tune to save my life, I have always been terrible at singing, maybe if it was at church, here NO, I’ll be the laughing stock.…

He went on to tell them of how he had asked the same question to a kindergarten class and how those children, who were aged between three and five, with shiny eyes and joyful faces had energetically and excitedly pumped their little hands in the air crying, Me!Me!Me! I can! I want to! Yes, me!

You will agree with me that young children are just like that. They do not care that they have never been trained to sing and they do not care that their efforts have been laughed at before. They simply believe that they can and that they will enjoy it too. In their little lives, they are full of energy, excitement and unblemished faith and through that they believe in the possibility of all things!

Isn’t it weird and unbelievable that adults, who mercilessly judge and doubt themselves and others were once these children! Where on earth did we get the negativity and the strong belief in the impossibility from?

The answer is there in the question; on earth. We have been on earth for a longer time and we now derive our reference from the negative situations that we have seen and experienced around. Because of that we have lost touch with what we truly are. Children, on the other hand, having been on earth for a shorter time, derive their reference from what’s within them.

What’s within them? A joyous, excited, fearless, confident and victorious spirit! Out of what they experience through their senses, children almost always choose to see beauty. They choose joy, excitement and freedom.

We, on the other hand, in the name of reasoning and logic, have since diluted these invaluable virtues with what we choose to focus on, on earth, and the result now is a doubtful, overly cautious, timid and defeated spirit.

If truth can be said, some of us were so close to achieving our dreams in our childhood than we are now.

Robin Sharma wrote, “The universe favours the bold. When you resolve to lift your life to its highest level, the strength of your soul will guide you to a magical place with magnificent treasures.

Must be bold and excited of what you want, trusting that within you is the power to achieve.”

This write-up is not meant to implore you to be someone else other than who you already are, deep inside. The best already resides in you, only that there are several things you picked up and accumulated over that brilliant self.

A wise man once said, If you can talk you can sing and if you can walk you can dance.

It is the belief that you cannot, that prevents you from achieving. Circumstances and conditions are not the truth for they are prone to change. It is unwise to define yourself and your capabilities basing on them. Never lower your goals and dreams to fit in your environment or circumstances! Dare to be who you are, dare to try what you feel you can do even if the circumstances and the environment do not agree.

If you take that first small step, and then continue gradually with commitment and consistency, everything around you will shape up to your will.

We need to return to live from the source as we did as children. I suggest you shake off those heavy blankets of complacency, doubt and fear covering you. Begin now, to regain what you’ve lost over the years. Start to realign and reconnect with your true self. Bring back to the surface the excited, lively and extra-ordinary self that you once were.
