IN a bid to end its long standing water woes, Redcliff Municipality has secured two potential partners to work on having their own water treatment plant.
Redcliff has been facing water supply challenges for years.
This follows the closure of ZISCO Steel about two decades ago.
ZISCO Steel has also been noted as the highest debtor of Council.
Speaking to H-Metro, Redcliff Municipality Town Clerk, Gilson Chakauya, revealed that Council has found two potential partners to work on the water treatment project.
“Currently, we have two potential partners, whom we will not disclose their names at the moment, to work with us towards having our own water treatment plant.
“We have forwarded the names of the potential partners to the Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency (ZIDA) for consideration,” he said.
Redcliff is currently relying on Kwekwe City Council for water supply, which sometimes takes days or weeks, without reaching some areas of the town.
However, the Town Clerk revealed that his Council will continue to engage in negotiating with Kwekwe City for water to be supplied in their area until they find a permanent solution to their woes.
“We will continue having discussions with Kwekwe City around options of having continued water supply,” he added.
Meanwhile, Redcliff Councillors have called for the Council’s debt collectors to up their game, in terms of following up on corporates, who are reluctant to pay up their debts.
