REDCLIFF Municipality has run out of residential stands after there was a sudden uptake of the available units from Ziscosteel workers who recently got paid part of their outstanding salaries.
Redcliff Mayor Councillor Freddy Kapuya confirmed the reports saying as council, they were working flat out to identify new areas that can be developed into residential stands.
“We do not have stands at the moment, but I can assure everyone that we are working on the issue and very soon we will have stands availed,” said Clr Kapuya.
He said Ziscosteel employees who received a windfall recently, jostled for the few stands that were available, leaving the council with no stands on offer.
“The Ziscosteel employees grabbed the stands that we had, paid their $500 deposits and some have started construction,” he said.
Chairperson for the Housing Committee Clr Lovemore Borerwe said the local authority has engaged a new property developer for new stands that will see 200 being availed before end of year.
“We had stands in Simbi Park, Renin, Rutendo and Grasslands but all of them have been purchased. But we have roped in Pure Gold Property Developers for the development of new stands,” he said.
