IN recent years, public discourse has been plagued by harmful stereotypes about young people, unjustly painting Generation Z as social outcasts and delinquents.
The Miss 2K Bulawayo pageant aims to challenge these misconceptions and redefine the image of this generation, particularly young women from the ekasi community.
By showcasing their talent, passion, and leadership skills, the pageant seeks to shatter these negative stereotypes and celebrate the potential of Generation Z.
Scheduled to take place on November 23 at McDonald Hall in Mzilikazi suburb, Bulawayo, the inaugural event promises to be a ground-breaking celebration of Gen Z’s diversity and potential. Founder and organiser, Nothabo Bhebhe, envisioned Miss 2K Bulawayo as a platform for self-expression, empowerment, and community development.
“The idea was to create a space for young individuals from ekasi to showcase their beauty, talent, and creativity,” she said.
With categories ranging from beauty to cultural and photogenic, participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate their diverse skills.
Bhebhe believes the pageant will have a profound impact on the lives of youths, boosting confidence, fostering community, and providing networking opportunities.
“By showcasing their talent and leadership skills, we challenge stereotypes and highlight their engagement and commitment to community development,” she said. The event’s theme, “Traditional on Black Tie”, seamlessly blends cultural heritage with modern style, reflecting Gen Z’s evolving identity.
Bhebhe noted: “This theme honours tradition while embracing innovation and self-expression.”
Beyond the pageant itself, Bhebhe plans to utilise the platform to address societal misconceptions about young women’s capabilities and ambitions.

“We will amplify their voices and stories, promoting gender equality and empowerment,” she said.
Industry experts and thought leaders will play a pivotal role in shaping the experience, sharing insights and expertise to build confidence and develop skills.
Bhebhe envisions Miss 2K Bulawayo as a catalyst for change, inspiring other organisations to recognise and support Gen Z’s potential.
Through mentorship programmes, workshops, and community service activities such as the clean-up campaign, Bhebhe outlined a strong strategy to change the narrative around ama2K. By engaging young people in community development initiatives, Miss 2K Bulawayo fosters a sense of responsibility and social awareness.
The pageant’s impact extends beyond the event itself. Bhebhe hopes to create a lasting legacy, inspiring future generations to reclaim their narrative. “We want to show the world that Gen Z is more than just stereotypes,” she emphasised.
Miss 2K Bulawayo has garnered significant support from local businesses and organisations. Edit Jockey (PKM Studios), SK Mobile Beauty Clinic, and Autism Awareness Ambassadors have partnered with the pageant, demonstrating their commitment to empowering young women.
The event promises to be an unforgettable experience, with hosts NkosiKing and Melissa Melcy guiding the proceedings. Entertainment will be provided by Amabutho aweNkwali, Alloe-The-Rapper, and Butholezwe. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
