H-METRO held its annual end-of-year bash on Friday to honour its reporters for the sterling job they continue to do.
It was the first such bash under the leadership of Editor Robson Sharuko and Deputy Editor Dingilizwe Ntuli.
Several guests graced the event, including Dr Johannes Marisa, who was the guest of honour.
Dynamos vice-chairman, Musa Gwasira, and Spencer Manguwa, who is rising in the corporate world’s corridors of power, also attended the bash.
Speaking at the event, Dr Marisa hailed H-Metro staffers for their commitment to bringing real drama to the people.
“I am happy with what you are doing as H-Metro.
“I am a big fan of H-Metro. I read the whole H-Metro newspaper every day.
“As H-Metro you have always covered a lot of humanitarian stories which I continue to urge you to pursue,” said Dr Marisa.
He also thanked the team for working hard during the Covid-19 pandemic in fighting misinformation and disinformation about the pandemic and vaccines.
“I am happy also for recording success in saving people during Covid-19, but it would not have been an easy task without your reportage,” he said.
He also emphasised the role played by the media in shaping the goals of the nation.
“You are there to defend the country and protect our country. You are there to serve the nation,” he said.
Gwasira also echoed similar sentiments.
Gwasira urged reporters to do follow-ups of their published stories.
“You bring confidence to society when you give the outcome of the stories you have run in the paper,” he said.
This comes after Dr Marisa and other health experts helped a family that was battling a leprosy outbreak.
This month marks one year since Sharuko became the publication’s editor after taking over the reins from long-serving editor Lawrence Moyo.
