Banket Town Board is set to improve its refuse collection services following the purchase of its first ever refuse compactor recently.
The town is currently using a tractor with an open trailer to collect refuse from its three residential suburbs and one industrial area, which is considered a health risk.
Speaking to The Herald, Banket Town Board chairperson Mr Richard Muganhiri said they used their devolution funds to buy the refuse compactor.
“We have managed to pay the full amount for the refuse compactor which is valued at $1,2 million from devolution funds provided by Government.”
He said they were expecting service to improve, which would subsequently result in improved revenue collections.
The local town board will also invest in a new sewer reticulation system in the high-density suburb of Kuwadzana Phase Two with feasibility studies already done by Witronia Africa.
In his annual report presented to Zvimba Rural District Council’s full council meeting recently, Mr Muganhiri said they had registered insignificant industrial growth since they were waiting for the Government to release the land they have earmarked for new industrial expansion.
The report also noted that the local authority had made a net profit of $73 121,34 after collecting a gross income of $119 574,27 from its income-generating projects.
