A Southern Africa Business Arts seminar meant to empower upcoming artistes on the business side of the entertainment industry is on the cards.
The seminar will be attended by artistes and their managers from Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana, courtesy of music and entertainment management label, Zhomba Entertainment.
Zhomba Entertainment spokesperson, Zee Viano, said the seminar will be held on February 11.
“This seminar is necessary for artistes, as they need to understand the business of art for them to profit from the industry.
“Zimbabwean finance and management expert, Dr Energy Mutodi, will share his nuggets of wisdom and experiences.
“He will be joined by Zambian producer, Muzo Beats, and Zambian artiste, Lady Vee, to unpack the business of art.”
Former Teen Scene and Friday Night Live at Amakhosi host, Sizwakele Ndlovu, and radio presenter, Khaya Moyo, are set to moderate the seminar and discussion.
“The music industry has a handful of professional managers who know what they are doing and understand the business of art such as Keen Mushapaidze, Elder Banda, Godfrey Vokal Bakasa, Walter Wanyanya and others.
“There is a need to raise managers who focus on the business side of things, while the artistes focus on producing and releasing quality products for the international market.”
The panellists are set to be joined by a surprise guest, said to be one of the leading casts in popular TV soapie Generations The Legacy.
Artistes have in the past been left with raw deals that have seen them complaining about not making money from their music.
Songstress Zahara of the Loliwe fame is one such artiste, who claims that she did not get her dues for the hit song she wrote and performed under T and S Records.
Amapiano star, Sir Trill, has also complained of making hits and not being paid his dues for the various songs that he churned out.
