Renowned SDA musician dies

PROMINENT composer and chorister in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Enock Mfana Ncube, known for penning a number of songs, has died.
He was 89.
Ncube who was popularly known as “Mawaipha” succumbed to cancer last Sunday at Mpilo Central Hospital.
“Mawaipha” composed popular songs such as Moses Khuph’Imbatata, Khumbulani Usuku, Inkosi Iyakubiza and I Will Be Waiting which have been recorded by many SDA music groups countrywide.

In an interview on Thursday, Ncube’s nephew Mr  Sydney Dube described his uncle as one of the best choristers in the land.
“My uncle used to lead popular groups in SDA such as Pelandaba District Choir, Original Messiah.   His talent was even appreciated by fellow SDAs in South Africa and Botswana.

“He wrote a number of songs and was dedicated to music for more than 54 years.
“He was also a dedicated man who could sacrifice anything for his family. He has left a huge gap in our lives and we will forever cherish him,” said Mr Dube.

He said “Mawaipha” would be buried tomorrow morning.
“We are going to hold a funeral service at Pelandaba SDA Church on Sunday at 8am and we will then proceed to West Park Cemetery for             burial.”

Mourners are gathered at Block 46/1481 Mpopoma.
Ncube is survived by his wife Gladys, two children and three grandchildren.

He was born on 24 June 1924 near Khami Ruins but his family moved to Kezi where he grew up at Mahetshe near Maphisa Growth Point.
He attended Empandeni Mission for his schooling and joined the SDA in July 1957 where he joined the music department till the time of his death.
