THE Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has partly restored power in Vumba, with businesses in some parts of the prime tourist destination still being haunted by outages.
ZETDC Eastern Region general manager, Engineer Milton Munodawafa early this week confirmed the development.
“The majority of the customers are back on power supply. Work is continuing to restore supplies to the remaining few clients.”
He also referred Post Business to Senior Engineer David Piki who said: “We are working on the main line and Nyamhenhi area. This week we will acquire chain saws and clear trees and other distractions so that the powerlines are not further disturbed.”
Tourism players in Vumba had a power outage on December 1, 2023, and the prolonged black-out was threatening the viability of their businesses.
The hospitality and tourism establishment found themselves spending a lot of money to ensure that their guests had a great experience in the Eastern Highlands.
Although, power has been restored in some parts of Vumba, one tourism player who requested anonymity said the supply is still too erratic to support their establishments.
Electricity is a key enabler in various economic sectors, including tourism which is a low hanging fruit characterised by foreign currency earnings, employment creation and community empowerment.
