TWO suspected cattle rustlers were nabbed early Saturday morning while in possession of two cattle carcasses.

Raymond Matere (26) and Cosmas Musai (35) were arrested at Boka Shopping Centre in Dangamvura.

They have since appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Ivy Musawengana and were not asked to plead to stock theft charges.

They were remanded in custody to March 12.

Mr Thurstone Mubvumbi represented the State.

He said on February 3, police details intercepted Matere and Musai at Boka Shopping Centre while they were in possession of two cattle carcasses.

“In the early hours of last Saturday morning, police intercepted the two at Boka Shopping Centre. This followed police reports made by the cattle owners in Matengambiri and Mberi villages under Chief Mutasa’s area after their cattle had been stolen.

“After the duo stole the cattle, they went to Mangenje Farm near Manica Bridge in Mutasa where they slaughtered them. They transported the meat to Mutare using a Honda Fit vehicle. They were interceptedby the police in Dangamvura and were arrested. The meat was confiscated,” said Mr Mubvumbi.

The duo allegedly used thick elastic to gag the cattle while slaughtering them.
