The Ministry of Health and Child care on Friday launched the Rerai Umntwana application at Cowdray Park Health Center in Bulawayo.
The application is considered to be a major milestone in health delivery service as it can be used by parents and health professionals.
Rerai Umntwana mobile application is a free digital parenting tool which was launched in Harare, is expected to ease the burden on health facilities while empowering families, particularly those in hard to reach areas.
The application allows parents and caregivers to download it onto their smartphones, enter basic information about their child and receive guidance tailored to the child’s age and stage of development.
It also functions offline and includes reminders for immunisations and micronutrient supplements in line with the national immunisation schedule.
Speaking during the launch, Chief Medical Officer for United Bulawayo Hospitals Dr William Busumani acknowledged the new application stating that it will help both parents and hospital staff to monitor the growth of children today and in the future.
“We are pleased to introduce a new way of monitoring and ensuring that our Children grow healthy,” he said.
“This app comes in English, Ndebele and Shona there by bridging the gap in terms of language barriers.”
He highlighted that as health professionals the app will make it easier for guardians and parents to keep track of their children’s grow today and in the future.
