DESPITE being forced to field a team made up mostly of junior players for their encounter against Seven Flames, Bindura United emerged the biggest winners in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league over the weekend.
They beat Seven Flames 3-0 to maintain their fourth spot on the log table.
Bindura coach, John Wilo, said he had to settle for the reserve team after some of his regular players boycotted training ahead of Saturday’s game.
“It wasn’t my plan to do so but because some of the senior players boycotted training I ended up using this team.
“At the moment there isn’t any concrete evidence why they boycotted but it started after our game against Chegutu Pirates.
“So I was forced to work with the juniors. The game was okay, we did well and I think it’s one of our best matches so far.
“We have been concentrating on the juniors and we won against Twalumba and now it’s 3-0 against Seven Flames,” said Wilo.
The players that missed Saturday’s game include Daniel Kamunenga, Quality Kangazi, Tendai Mujaji and Alisara Kondowe.
However, this is not the first time senior players have boycotted training at the club and Wilo said he will stick to the junior players for the remainder of the season.
“I am going to use the same team for the rest of the season. I don’t think we are going to use those guys, except, maybe if we talk about the issue.
“I think these guys should be open about their problems rather than to just boycotting training,” said Wilo.
Wilo said they are yet to replace their assistant coaches that left the club, Zacks Kataya and Collin Chawasarira, who left the club early last month together with the team manager, Tedius Nsalapi.
“I am still waiting, we have not resolved the issue. Maybe it’s because of the financial constraints. So I will just work with my captain until the end of the season,” said Wilo.
There were no changes for the top eight teams with leaders, Flame Lily holding on to top spot, while Gunners also won to remain second, trailing the prison officers by just a point.
The last two matches for these two teams are crucial because any slip up will cost them.
Flame Lily will take on Starbill at Chikurubi and ZRP Football Club at Morris in their remaining two games while Gunners clash against Ngezi Platinum at a venue to be announced as the former Premiership champions have indicated that they will not go back to Lafarge.
Gunners will conclude their campaign at Chipadze against Bindura.
