Most voters in Shurugwi North and Shurugwi South constituencies have hailed the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for the efficiency with which they managed to process voters during Monday’s harmonised elections. The polling station-based voting centres, they said, largely give confidence to the voting public.
“This new system is very efficient and clear. The service we received during the voting process is excellent. It shows that we are a technologically progressing country. Here in Shurugwi we survive on small-scale mining and vending; hence, we had ample time to go back to our workplaces,” said Thomas Chirenje, a small-scale miner.
A small section of the white community who voted at Selukwe School said they were satisfied with the new system.
“I enjoyed exercising my right to vote. I came together with my mother, who is now elderly and was assisted in the most professional manner possible.
The electoral climate prevailing in Shurugwi is a new phenomenon. Previously, Shurugwi became a fierce hotspot for violence as the makorokozas would be used by political parties to fuel violence,” said Jonnel Lavender, who owns retail shops in Shurugwi.
Most voters who participated in Monday’s polls said the obtaining peaceful environment is commendable.
