Residents to petition Parly over Gutu water

Six people were killed, four of them on the spot, in a head-on collision near Chatsworth Turn-Off along the Harare-Masvingo Highway on Saturday.

The accident occurred after a Harare-bound Hyundai Tucson carrying four passengers encroached into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Mercedes Benz going in the opposite direction.

Police said two passengers died on admission at Driefontein Mission Hospital in  Mvuma.

Chief national police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident in a statement.

She said two other people who were injured in the accident were receiving treatment at Driefontein Hospital.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba cautioned drivers to be observant on the road.

“The police urge drivers to be observant on the road and avoid straddling the centreline of the road whilst going the opposite direction of the oncoming vehicles,” she said.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the Hyundai Tucson was heading due north towards Harare with four passengers on board.

On approaching the 233km peg, the driver of the Hyundai encroached into the lane of an oncoming Mercedes Benz with two passengers on board, resulting in the head-on   collision.
