THE Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has issued a statement condemning any form of abuse directed toward members of the media.
This follows an incident involving national team player Tinotenda Kadewere and sports journalist Yvonne Mangunda during an open training session at Orlando Stadium in South Africa.
The incident occurred during the Warriors’ media day, when an altercation between the player and the journalist disrupted what was meant to be a routine engagement with the press.
ZIFA expressed deep regret over the matter and emphasised the importance of a respectful relationship between football stakeholders and the media.
“Journalists are a vital part of the game, and we are committed to ensuring they carry out their duties without fear or intimidation,” the statement read.
According to ZIFA, Kadewere has since apologised to Mangunda, and an amicable understanding has been reached between both parties. The Association also confirmed that the matter is being addressed through the appropriate disciplinary channels by both team management and the Association itself.
“We take full responsibility for upholding the highest standards of conduct within our teams. We reaffirm our commitment to respectful engagement with all stakeholders.”
