adminA MUTARE man last week appeared before a Mutare court seeking maintenance downward variation for his two children saying he had been retrenched from work.
Tatenda Kapondoro was praying that the figure be slashed from the current $500 to $50 for the upkeep of two children aged 17 and 20 years he sired with Tenny Chimbera.
Mrs Annia Ndiraya presided over the matter. Kapondoro told the court that he was fired from Metalon Gold Company.
He produced papers that showed that he lost his job on August 23 this year and currently does not have any source of income.
“I have not secured employment at the moment and can no longer manage the $500 that I was paying for my two boys. I’m therefore begging you to reduce it to $50 until I find something that gives me more money,” said Kapondoro.
Chimbera however disputed the maintenance fee reduction and told the court that Kapondoro owns a Mazda SDX that he uses to transport both people and goods.
“He earns about $800 per month from transporting people and goods using his Mazda SDX .He also repairs radios, earning a minimum of $200 per month so he can manage the $500. There is no need for downward variation, Your worship,” said Chimbera.
She told the court that their 17-year-old son is asthmatic and needs almost $60 monthly for medication.
“The $50 that he is praying for is not even enough to cover our little boy’s medication because he is asthmatic,” she said.
In response, Kapondoro explained: “It is true that I fix radios but I have not yet secured a place and enough equipment for this kind of business. The children’s school fees were not included on the $500 .I have to pay $1705 for my 17-year-old child who is learning at Hillcrest College. The load will be too much for me because I have to run around and source money for school fees. She also has to work harder and help me,” said Kapondoro.
Mrs. Ndiraya granted the variation and ordered him to pay $80 with effect from October 30. She also urged Chimbera to put more effort and help the father of his children.
