PEOPLE who returned home from South Africa and are being accommodated at Madziwa Teachers’ College in Shamva have thanked President Mnangagwa and his Government for welcoming them back home and pledged to contribute to the country’s economic development.
Some among the 24 who returned home with nothing, appealed to Government for assistance with loans to start projects to fend for their families.
One of the returnees, Mr Rashai Tetserai from Kairezi area in Muzarabani, said he was sceptical about returning home, although he was struggling in South Africa because people gave him a false impression that people were dying of hunger in Zimbabwe.
He said he had now seen that this was not the case.
“We have acquired skills that we want to use and help develop the country,” he said.
Mrs Spiwe Manjovha thanked President Mnangagwa for welcoming them back and said they were treated well from Beitbridge up to the quarantine centre.
Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Devolution Senator Monica Mavhunga visited the institution to assess the suitability of the living conditions and welcomed the returning citizens.
She said she was happy with the facilities and commended the staff for treating the returnees well.
“Embracing the returning citizens and showing them love will make them feel comfortable and accepted,” she said. “We will avail more resources, bedding and linen as we anticipate more people.”
Sen Mavhunga said the Covid-19 taskforce would compile a data base so that the returnees could access loans at the Women’s Bank and the Ministry Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development.
