ZBC chief correspondent Reuben Barwe’s wife, Mrs Ellen Barwe (nee Chongo) has died. Mrs Barwe died on Tuesday at the Avenues Clinic of liver and kidney failure, a week after admission. She will be buried today at Warren Hills Cemetery. In an interview with The Herald, Barwe described his wife as a quiet, peace-loving and caring mother. “She was very quiet and I do not remember when we last quarrelled. She was like a mother to the Barwe family, considering that I am the most senior in the family,” he said.

Mrs Barwe was a senior teacher at Warren Park Primary School and a dedicated United Methodist Church member. Barwe said burial has been set for noon today. “The ceremony starts at 9am at the United Methodist Church’s Mabasa Evapositori Assembly in Warren Park in the morning, before burial at Warren Hills. After the burial, lunch will be served here at home around 1pm,” he said.

Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Christopher Mushohwe, permanent secretary Mr George Charamba, several senior public servants and journalists visited the family home to pay their condolences. Mourners are gathered at number 51 Lawley Avenue in Belvedere, Harare.
