Revellers outshine Legendary Sounds

IT was a near striptease show when female revellers and dancers from Harare-based dancehall sound system Legendary Sounds took over the show at Club Forty 40 in Bulawayo on Friday night. The show that recorded a low turnout saw female revellers take centre stage with their mini strip show that involved dancers Bobby Zee and Sizzla from Legendary Sounds. Seeing that they were losing the crowd, DJ Smylie asked women to get on stage and dance with the two.

However, their actions could be a direct violation of their dancers’ licences like raunchy dancer Bev who is not allowed to get into contact with revellers. For contravening the dancers’ licence Bev was called in to questioning by police in Harare and later on appeared before the courts. She was later on acquitted with a warning and fine.

Whether this will also translate to the Legendary Sounds dancers licences being revoked or they possess different types of licences, it did not matter as they invited women on stage to perform sexually suggestive dances with them.

The women also were eager to dance, whether it was because they were intoxicated or they wanted their fifteen minutes of fame, they leapt on stage to show off their dance moves.

When DJ Smylie announced that he wanted women on stage to dance, suddenly the atmosphere went up a notch with revellers who were at the back end of the club hurriedly making their way to the front to watch.

Bobby Zee was on stage first and a pint-sized woman wearing a t-shirt written “Things are looking up” went on stage with him and he went on to carry her and did sexually suggestive dances with her.

Amid cheers, whistles from the crowd and DJ Smylie urging the couple on, the two took their “act” off the stage with the female reveller being carried by Bobby facing him with legs open wide.

Sizzla did the same with another female reveller who had long hair, wearing a peach blouse and the two made use of the pole to dance with him, and would on occasion lie down also with legs open, much to the delight of the revellers on stage.

After the show, Sizzla, real name Regis Ruzvidzo who is married, said he was not worried about what he was doing as his wife knew dancing with women was part of the job.

He said he enjoyed being in Bulawayo as they always have fun in the city with fans and friends they have made over the past year.
During the show, Legendary Sounds’ DJ Smylie went on stage at 12.30AM and got straight to business by leading the crowd in singing renditions of Busy Signal’s Missing You, One More Night and Bob Marley tracks.

The show ended at 3AM and Bulawayo’s number one DJ Mzoe took over the decks.
